Do you set New Years resolutions? This seems to be a question that I hear every year, but it seemed to be everywhere this past January. Everywhere I turned, there were discussions – on social media, on morning news shows and within groups of friends. The answers truly were a mixed response!
Some set them in the hopes of bettering themselves, some set them but joke about them only lasting a few weeks and others have just given up and don’t bother.
I have always been the optimistic person that LOVES a new year and all of the possibilities it brings. I have loved hitting the reset button every January after an overindulgent December but even with my optimism, I find that I lose focus on them within a month or two and my focus goes onto something else.
This year my mind-set changed. This year, I decided that I wanted to try something new.
What if I could hit reset every month?
What if I set my goals and intentions at the beginning of every month, kept them posted as a daily reminder AND reviewed them at the end of the month?
Now I know that this is not a novel concept and there are A LOT of people who are more intentional with their months, but in the past, I have not been one of them. I have been the person that makes many daily to-do lists, but I haven’t ever written out a short term or long term goal.
I haven’t really even thought about them that much!
I used to write down my NY resolution, but then never look at it again. When it popped in my mind, I would brush it off and say, “well I gave it a shot, I am too busy now”. Too busy doing what?! LOL
This year will be different. I am going to actually write out the monthly goals and post them. I am not just going to keep them in my head.
I am going to set goals that encapsulate all areas of my life – work, health, finances and family in the hopes that I won’t be neglectful of different areas when I obsess over others (which I have a tendency to do;).
This is going to be the year of monthly goals instead of New Year’s Resolutions and every month or even every day gives you a fresh start. We have 12 new chapters and 365 new chances to set and reach new goals and it is never to late to start. Who wants to join me?
